Six foreign-born Muslims, hellbent on jihad, were charged yesterday with forging a sinister terror plot to attack New Jersey's Fort Dix Army base and slaughter as many soldiers as they could, authorities said.

The men - three of them brothers and all in their 20s and from the former Yugoslavia and the Middle East - allegedly had worked for nearly two years to collect maps and weapons and train themselves in how to use them and were just steps away from launching their assault.

Little did they know, the feds said, that their twisted scheme had been infiltrated by undercover FBI informants who surreptitiously made an audiotape of them discussing the plan for 16 months.

WELL, here is the thanks we get. Eight years ago, America opened its arms to tens of thousands of ethnic Albanian refugees from Kosovo. The first planeload landed at Fort Dix. Military leaders worked day and night to turn the base into a child-friendly village. They coordinated medical checkups, mental health and trauma counseling and ethnic-food preparations.
