McKinney apologizes for role in scuffle
WASHINGTON — With her support among black lawmakers and Democrats eroding and a grand jury weighing whether to charge her with a crime, Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia went on the House floor Thursday and apologized for her role in a scuffle with a Capitol Police officer last week.
"There should not have been any physical contact in this incident," said McKinney, surrounded by a handful of lawmakers. "I am sorry this misunderstanding happened at all and I regret its escalation and I apologize."
After a week of claiming she was the victim of racial profiling, McKinney abruptly shifted course and apologized.
As McKinney was apologizing, a federal grand jury was preparing to hear testimony from subpoenaed congressional aides who witnessed her confrontation with the Capitol Hill officer. more
Well, isn't she just too special? How did this go from a racially motivated, and practically an assault on her, her gender and her race, to a "misunderstanding?"Back Link
I saw that apology and if I got an apology from one of my kids in that tone of voice, with the rolling of eyes like she gave, my kid would be grounded til she was 32.
But she isn't a rebellious teenager, she's a member of Congress, a grown woman and supposedly a citizen of the USA...a country of law.
Kids get grounded, congress people get censured. ~ RadioWoman
