His daughter paused her career and went to North Viet Nam to aid and abet the enemy.
I believe that Jane reconciled with her dad before he died; but her romp with the enemy must have been among the most painful episodes of his life.
I think they did reconcile.
If not he probably would not have appeared in "On Golden Pond" with her.
