The latest example is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to let the House go on vacation rather than take a vote on extending the Protect America Act. The act updates surveillance laws to take into account technological changes and give telecommunication companies immunity from lawsuits over their cooperation with the government.

If a missed telephone conversation or email intercept contained clues to a plot to detonate nuclear devices in Manhattan and Washington — al Qaida’s No. 1 goal — the government would have no way of knowing before both cities were wiped out.

That is the roulette game the Democrats are playing with our safety. In fact, the Senate has already passed an extension of the Protect America Act, and there are enough votes in the House to pass it as well, but the Democratic leadership of the House is blocking a vote. Full Story

Michael O'Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack, of the liberal-oriented Brookings Institute, wrote a piece in the New York Times that has opponents of the mission in Iraq in a state of shock and dismay:

"Here is the most important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush administration's miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily "victory" but a sustainable stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with."

As the media has reported today, this sets the stage for a major showdown in Washington, D.C. on September 15th when the report on "the surge" by Gen. David Petraeus is to be delivered to Congress.

Two Brookings Institution guys -- these are leftists, by the way -- saying, "Hey, we are winning in Iraq." Feingold also said, (paraphrasing) "I don't care. I don't see any evidence. I'm just not going to accept the president's word." This is going to be a big problem for the left because these two guys just got back from Iraq, they say the surge is working, it's showing great promise. It would be unconscionable, they say, to pull out of there prior to 2008. You can hear Pelosi's face crack again when she got up and read this this morning. You could probably see it crack when she read this. The left-wing blogosphere is no doubt going nuts. Maybe it's too much to hope for, but can you imagine how the attitude and the mood in this country would change if the reporting about the surge working could actually serve to help unite the people of this country behind this effort? Do you realize the difference that would make in public attitudes and moods? I know it's a long shot, because the left is already invested in defeat, as are the Democrats in Congress. Sheehan, a Californian, officially announced that she intends to run as an independent against Pelosi in 2008 if the San Francisco congresswoman doesn't move to impeach Bush by July 23, the day she expects to reach Washington.

AL QAEDA IN IRAQ

How often has President Bush warned of a strong al Qaeda presence in Iraq - to derisory hoots from such critics as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi?

For the Democrats, the War on Terror should be waged exclusively outside Iraq's borders. What's happening in Baghdad and Anbar province, they maintain, is nothing more than a Sunni-Shiite civil war - one from which America must cut and run.

Yet then an emboldened al Qaeda would bring the war to America. It's already happened once; no one knows what form the inevitable new attack would take.

I used to think wearing a push-up bra was punishment.

Then I wore an Iranian-issue chador for a day.

As soon as I put on the one-size-fits-all outfit, I could feel my self-confidence plummet.

By the end of my belittling day under Islam's strict dress code, the stares and smirks were the least of my concerns.

Homeless men at Penn Station shouted gibberish at me, available cabs ignored me and children and the elderly gawked.

I got used to the chafing, $36 polyester get-up - and got the knack for the niqab (scarf) from a Google how-to guide. But the pins holding the hijab headscarf in place pierced my neck, I tripped on every subway staircase and the slightest breeze blew open my chador.

I soon learned the head-to-toe smock the Iranian government has long forced its female citizenry to cover up in is a psychological prison.

I have never smiled less or felt so lonely.

Iran has begun producing nuclear fuel in its underground uranium-enrichment plant, according to a confidential document from the U.N. atomic watchdog.

The document, obtained yesterday by news services, said Tehran had started up 1,312 centrifuge machines, divided into eight cascades, or networks, in the Natanz complex, in an accelerating campaign to lay a basis for "industrial scale" enrichment.

Now that the pre-eminent constitutional scholar and sometime speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has determined that she is by fiat the commander in chief of our armed forces and secretary of state as well, it is time to consider the consequences of her actions by the same rules. If she commits "high crimes and misdemeanors" within those parameters indicated by the Constitution, would she be liable for removal from office by impeachment?

As luck would have it, the impeachment process begins in her own House, and since she has proclaimed herself virtually the entire executive branch of government, it follows that she might no longer have the constitutional protection of members of Congress who can be removed from office only by a vote of their colleagues in their own legislative body.

Pelosi has made a habit of being just plain stupid. Now as the mightiest women in the world she has exceeded even her own warped expectations of just how great an airhead she is. Wonder what she will do next to show us her utter contempt for our Constitution. Note that Hairy Reid the other babbling baboon has not pulled that little book out of his pocket to condem her bizarre actions. Some say Hairy lost his Constitution book and that the book he pulls out of his pocket on the floor with tears in his eyes is his little black book of federal contracts that go through his sons.

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting today that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is considering another shadow foreign policy trip to a state sponsor of terrorism - this time to Iran. Pelosi received strong condemnation for her recent trip to Syria, one of the leading state sponsor's of terrorism in the world.

Pelosi's galling comment after that trip was: "
We came in friendship, hope."

Now the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States is contemplating a visit to legitimize the regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad just days after Iran took 15 British sailors hostage?!?

The visits by Pelosi and a handful of others (including Republican congressman Darrell Issa who has been accused of defending the terrorist group, Hezbollah) to the leading state sponsors of terrorism sends a message that America has lost the will to prevail in the war against radical Islamic terrorists and those who fund them, train them and arm them.
We at Move America Forward find that reprehensible, and we are continuing to fight back. Friends, our troops are in the field facing terrorist fighters who cross over from Syria into Iraq. Our troops are dying from super-enhanced IED explosive devices designed in Iran and smuggled into Iraq along with Iranian terrorist operatives. Our troops bleed and yet some of our congressional leaders go and kiss the hands of those who are orchestrating the fight to kill and injure our military men and women.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in damage-control mode, says her trip to Syria was a good thing, because it showed strongman Bashar Assad that Americans are united behind President Bush: "Our message was President Bush's message."

"It became clear to President Assad that even though we have our differences in the United States, there is no division between the president and the Congress and the Democrats on the message we wanted him to receive," she said.

Is she mad to think that would fly?

Or is it just a pathetic attempt to salvage what has become for her a personal political disaster?

Amazing what a storm of controversy - including a public rebuke from Israel's prime minister and a stinging editorial by the liberal Washington Post calling her actions "counterproductive" and foolish" - will do.

Indeed, Pelosi even tried to spin that to her advantage.

"The funny thing is, I think we may have even had a more powerful impact with our message because of the attention that was called to our trip," she suggested.

As a National Security Council spokesman yesterday noted, "there is nothing funny about the impact her trip to Syria has had."

Moreover, to suggest, as Pelosi did, that the message she delivered - "the road to Damascus is a road to peace" - is the same one advocated by President Bush, who has labeled Syria a terrorist-supporting state, is patently ludicrous.

They can't permit victory politically. They simply cannot.
They are so far out now from over the edge that even if there is victory, they can't even lay any claim to it or even say that they had a role and played any assistance in it. It's not that they're wedded to it now. For their political future, we must lose, and they must bring that about and all you need to do is see this smiling picture of Nancy Pelosi announcing this vote victory last Friday in the House of Representatives.

Later, Pelosi said she had tried to reach the president but was only able to get through to White House chief of staff Josh Bolten.

Bolten said he was certain no one was questioning her patriotism or commitment to national security, she told reporters.

"I said to him perhaps when he saw what the vice president said he might have another comment," Pelosi said. White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said Cheney "was not questioning anyone's patriotism." But she said Bush and Cheney believe that Pelosi and Murtha's "position to immediately pull out our troops would be harmful to our national security and that it is the wrong strategy to pursue."
